Description
No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This box set comprises 12 classic martial arts films from the famous Shaw Brothers' library. Many of these films are debuting for the first time on Blu-ray. Get ready for some exciting thrills and chills as our iconic heroes square off against abominable villains in a duel to the death! Have Sword, Will Travel: Internationally acclaimed director Chang Cheh teams David Chiang and Ti Lung for the second time in the classic heroic bloodshed epic Have Sword, Will Travel, its title inspired by the lone gunman Hollywood hit TV show Have Gun—Will Travel. Ti Lung is the armor of an "armored van" taking silver to the capital. Along the way, a mysterious knight (David Chiang) stalks him. Although he appears to be the robber, his intentions prove to be far more mysterious. The Heroic Ones: No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This is their quintessential historical epic, set during the waning years of the Tang Dynasty. It's literally brother against brother as David Chiang and Ti Lung display their remarkable martial arts prowess—battling insiders and outsiders in a duel to the death for the fate of China. Vengeance!: David Chiang plays a psychotic man out to avenge the death of his older brother (Ti Lung) in this tale of retribution and paying the ultimate price. The action by acclaimed choreographers Tang Chia and Yuen Cheung-yan (The Grandmaster, The Matrix Reloaded) is just as psychotic. Chang Cheh won Best Director and David Chiang's haunting performance earned him the Best Actor Award at the 1970 Asian Film Festival. The Anonymous Heroes: Director Chang Cheh and his stars Ti Lung and David Chiang were known as the iron triangle for their many successful films together. But perhaps they should have been known as the iron rectangle because of the invaluable contributions of action choreographer Lau Kar-leung. This post-Chinese Revolution adventure of rebels battling warlords is a prime example of the quartet's remarkable skills behind and in front of the camera. Their teamwork made this a 1971 top-ten hit. The Deadly Duo: It's the Sung Dynasty versus the Chin invaders as the iron triangle truly hit their stride with this crowd-pleasing kung fu epic. When a handsome prince is taken captive and guarded by a martial arts master, it's up to two powerful patriots to fight overwhelming odds. From the first fascinating minute to the final desperate battle—culminating in an unforgettably evocative conclusion—this duo is dynamic as well as deadly. Duel of Fists: Another triumph for the iron triangle, not to mention for action choreographer Liu Chia-liang as well. David Chiang is a Chinese boxer who travels to Bangkok in search of his lost brother, who may or may not be the Thai boxer played by Ti Lung. This kung fu/Thai boxing combo was one of the megahits of 1971, second only to Bruce Lee's The Big Boss. The Duel: In the days before Bruce Lee became a superstar, the greatest heroes in Hong Kong cinema were the majestic Ti Lung and the charismatic David Chiang. The year after they exploded into superstardom in Chang Cheh's landmark teen rebellion action film, Vengeance!, they returned in this mano-a-mano classic as an adopted son struggling with familial fears and a streetwise knight-errant named "Rambler." The two distrust each other until they survive a trial by fire…and fists. The Angry Guest: When a vengeful Japanese gangster has our heroes' mother murdered and one of their girlfriends kidnapped, it's terror in Tokyo and horror in Hong Kong in this renowned sequel to Duel of Fists (featuring director Chang Cheh himself in a rare on-screen appearance as a triad boss!). The esteemed Yasuaki Kurata, the future co-star of Jet Li's Fist of Legend, adds to the fight-filled fun in a film filled with international favorites. All Men Are Brothers: This is the long-awaited sequel to the martial arts blockbuster The Water Margin. Finally, its many international fans can see this action-packed follow-up, based on one of China's most enduring 14th-century novels. Also known as Seven Soldiers of Kung Fu and 108 Heroes, it is truly an epic by any name, featuring a cast of perennial kung fu favorites, and no less than four action choreographers. The Blood Brothers: Set in the waning years of the Ching Dynasty, this dramatic, tragic, romantic, and blood-soaked martial arts tale of betrayal and revenge explores one of the most sensational scandals in Chinese history…and marked the true ascension of its director and actors to superstar status. In fact, Ti Lung won Golden Horse Awards of Outstanding Performance for his challenging role of a jealous provincial governor who kills his friend in order to steal the man's wife. The Savage 5: The heroes are savage because the villains are brutal, cruel, and vicious. At first, a gang just wants the village locksmith to open a stolen safe, but it soon escalates into torment. Though reminiscent of The Seven Samurai, The Savage 5 distinguishes itself well as the director and his revered action choreographers, Liu Chia-liang and Tang Chia, design each of its many struggles with gritty depravity and desperate power. The result is an especially realistic, even grueling, exercise in white-knuckle suspense. 7 Man Army: In 1933, 20,000 Japanese soldiers and 50 tanks invaded the Pa Tou Lou Tzu, a strategic key point of the Great Wall. With only seven men stationed in defense, these heroes took on the entire army for five days before succumbing. Director Chang Cheh recreated this epic battle with a stellar cast, including Ti Lung, David Chiang, Alexander Fu Sheng, and Chen Kuan-tai, as a celluloid tribute to these nameless souls. Bonus Content: Disc 1 - Have Sword, Will Travel: Audio Commentary with David West, Critic and Author of Chasing Dragons: An Introduction to the Martial Arts Film Original Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 2 - The Heroic Ones: Sanguine and Guile—Filmmaker and Academic Gilbert Po Offers An On-Camera Discussion of The Bloody Brilliance of Director Chang Cheh Celestial Trailer Disc 3 - Vengeance!: Audio Commentary by David West, Critic and Author of Chasing Dragons: An Introduction To The Martial Arts Film Retribution Shaw-Style—Luke White, Author of Legacies of The Drunken Master: Politics of the Body In Hong Kong Kung Fu Comedy Films Provides An Insightful Look at The Politics And Plasma-Spillage of Vengeance Original Theatrical Trailer Disc 4 - The Anonymous Heroes: Audio Commentary with James Mudge, Veteran Hong Kong Film Critic at easternKicks Original Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 5 - The Deadly Duo: Audio Commentary with James Mudge, Veteran Hong Kong Film Critic at easternKicks Original Theatrical Trailer German Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 6 - Duel of Fists: Audio Commentary with Veteran Film Critic Ian Jane of Rock!
Description
In a frozen forest, a solitary Drifter follows a ghostly Old Man from a rocking chair to a ruined hotel, lured by silence and eerie self-portraits. In the dead of a bitter winter, a solitary Drifter (Alf Lamers) trudges through a silent forest, fleeing the wreckage of his past life. On his back rests a rucksack adorned with pans and cans that click and clang with every step, a sharp metallic rhythm echoing in the white void. As the storm intensifies and daylight fades, he encounters an impossibility: an Old Man (Mario Lucente), sitting in a rocking chair half-buried in the snow. The Old Man is wrapped in a heavy, archaic WWII soldier's coat; he does not shiver, and no white breath escapes his lips in the freezing air. In his lap, he clutches a bundle of disturbing charcoal sketches--self-portraits showing his own face transitioning from weary human to skeletal decay. Without speaking, the Old Man rises and beckons the Drifter to follow, leading him with unnerving steadiness toward a dilapidated, vine-strangled hotel hidden in the trees. Inside the "frozen corpse of a building," the spectral guide leads the Drifter into the lobby and suddenly vanishes near a dark corner. Confused and freezing, the Drifter notices a section of the wall that has been hastily concealed with rotting planks. Driven by a morbid instinct, he pries the wood loose, revealing a hidden, airless crawlspace. Inside sits the rocking chair. Slumped within it is a skeleton, draped in the tattered, dust-covered remains of the same WWII coat. In the skeleton's bony lap rests the actual bundle of drawings. The Drifter shines his light on them, realizing the truth: the Old Man had walled himself in years ago. The sketches were his final diary--frantic, charcoal self-portraits drawn in the dark, documenting his own starvation and death until the final page, which depicts only a screaming skull. Bonus Materials Soundtrack CD Cast & Crew Actors: Alf Lamers as Drifter Mario Lucente as Old Man Director: Francesco Lucente Producer: Sam Cucchiaio Track Listing Disc 1: Alf Lamers - This Old Man Alf Lamers - Forest Alf Lamers - Dam Alf Lamers - Chase Alf Lamers - Ghost Top About this item Similar From the Brand Questions Reviews This Old Man: Remastered Collector's Edition This Old Man: Remastered Collector's Edition

Mondo Macabro presents MARQUIS - Visually wild and totally unhinged, this underground cult classic is not for the faint of heart. Imprisoned in the Bastille for a minor act of blasphemy, the Marquis navigates lust, censorship, and the chaos of pre-revolutionary France. Through his wild imagination, he escapes into scandalous tales he writes down on scraps of paper. But the idea of a real escape begins to take shape when his cellmates start planning their breakout to join the revolutionary movement beyond the Bastille walls. This truly astonishing film, loosely based on the life of the notorious Marquis de Sade, is like nothing you,ve ever seen before. The characters in the story are all animals: dogs, cows, hens, rats etc. But this is not animation. The cast are played by real actors in specially created life-sized heads of whichever animal they are portraying: the Marquis is a cheery spaniel, the naive Justine is a heifer, the dominatrix Juliette is a mare and the head of the notorious Bastille prison is a sexually rapacious cockerel. And, as though that wasn,t enough, the Marquis, constant companion in his grim prison cell is his oversized talking penis, which pops out of his trousers to hold long conversations with him about the state of the world. Visually wild and totally unhinged, this underground cult classic is not for the faint of heart. Specs: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.66:1. Dolby Digital Mono. Region code: All. Special Features: Region free. New 2K restoration from the original negative. French audio with optional English subtitles. Audio commentary with cast and crew. Description
Both beloved, surreal Hungarian animated gems CAT CITY and CATCHER: CAT CITY 2, released together in the U.S. on Blu-ray for the first time! This deluxe 2-disc edition features the original Hungarian animated sci-fi classic CAT CITY (1986) paired for the first time with its sequel CATCHER: CAT CITY 2 (2007) making its U.S. Blu-ray debut: CAT CITY (MACSKAFOGÓ), 1986, Hungary, 96 min. Unflappable mouse secret agent Nick Grabovsky (László Sinkó) goes up against the criminal cat gang run by sinister, metal-pawed Mr. Teufel (Miklós Benedek), in director Béla Ternovszky's surreal animated sci-fi treasure. Set in the year 80 AMM ("After Mickey Mouse") on Planet X where cats and rats have banded together to eliminate mice, the film features a show-stopping series of musical numbers including a bizarre chorus of Mexican vampire bats who inhabit an ancient Mayan temple. A cross between 1980s Don Bluth-style animation (THE SECRET OF NIMH) and the British TV series "Danger Mouse", CAT CITY has long been a beloved cult favorite in Eastern Europe. CATCHER: CAT CITY 2 (MACSKAFOGÓ 2 - A SÁTÁN MACSKÁJA) - 2007, Hungary, 90 min. It's 20 years after the epochal battle between cats, rats and mice in the beloved original CAT CITY. Planet X is now peacefully run by rodents, and former secret agent Nick Grabovsky has an organic spinach farm - until an African explorer discovers the last untamed tribe of cats in the jungle, who call up the ancient feline demon Moloch to help reclaim their place atop the food chain. Hungarian director Béla Ternovszky's delightfully quirky sequel brings back familiar characters from the first film (yes, iron-pawed Mr. Teufel returns!) with the same mix of bizarre sight gags, political satire and "Danger Mouse"-style animated fantasy / sci-fi. And the Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla-like battle between Moloch and the giant Robot Dog is something to see. Bonus Materials 3 rare Béla Ternovszky animated shorts. Interview with György Ráduly, Director of the National Film Institute-Film Archive. Commentary track by film historian Samm Deighan 'The Director Answers: Béla Ternovsky' - 2023, 23 min. Dir. Yvonne Kerékgyártó – interview with Béla Ternovszky “Ahead Of Its Time (Megelőzte a maga korát)” – 2020, 25 min. Dir. Péter Szalay.
