Newly Restored in HD and 3-D from 2K Scans! A married woman (Agnes Moorehead) takes her four unmarried redheaded daughters (Rhonda Fleming, Teresa Brewer, Cynthia and Kay Bell of The Bell Sisters) to Alaska during the 1898 Gold Rush so they could help their father run his newspaper. All four are members of the singing sister act The Edmonds Sisters, and upon arriving in Yukon they find out their father was murdered. The four heroines get work at the saloon owned by Johnny Kisco (Gene Barry). Kathie Edmonds (Fleming) searches for her father s murderer, who may or may not be Kisco. Hollywood veteran Lewis R. Foster directed this wonderful and colorful musical, which was the first ever 3-D musical and the first widescreen film released by Paramount Pictures. Description
Set in a mining town in the 1880s, Thousand Pieces of Gold tells the real-life story of Lalu (Rosalind Chao, The Laundromat, The Joy Luck Club), a young Chinese woman whose desperately poor parents sell her into slavery. She is trafficked to a nefarious saloonkeeper in Idaho’s gold country. Eventually Charlie, a man of a different ilk, played by Chris Cooper (Adaptation, American Beauty), wins her in a poker game and slowly gains her trust. Way ahead of its time, the film resonates even more powerfully in the #MeToo era. But director Nancy Kelly became a victim of prejudice against women directors within the American film industry and was never offered another movie to direct in spite of extraordinary reviews, some of which compared her talent to that of John Ford. Based on the classic novel by Ruthanne Lum McCunn, and written for the screen by awardwinning filmmaker Anne Makepeace (Tribal Justice), Thousand Pieces of Gold is a breathtaking feminist Western just waiting to be rediscovered, and is presented here in a new 4K restoration. Special Features: Radio interview with director Nancy Kelly (courtesy of Chinamerica Radio) | Audio commentary with Nancy Kelly and producer Kenji Yamamoto | Booklet essay by screenwriter and filmmaker Anne Makepeace | Trailer

Description
This boldly cinematic trio of stories about love and loss, from Krzysztof Kieślowski, was a defining event of the art-house boom of the 1990s. The films are named for the colors of the French flag and stand for the tenets of the French Revolution—liberty, equality, and fraternity—but that hardly begins to explain their enigmatic beauty and rich humanity. Set in Paris, Warsaw, and Geneva, and ranging from tragedy to comedy, Blue, White, and Red (Kieślowski’s final film) examine with artistic clarity a group of ambiguously interconnected people experiencing profound personal disruptions. Marked by intoxicating cinematography and stirring performances by Juliette Binoche, Julie Delpy, Irène Jacob, and Jean-Louis Trintignant, Kieślowski’s Three Colors is a benchmark of contemporary cinema. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restorations, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks One 4K UHD disc of each film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray of each film with special features Three cinema lessons with director Krzysztof Kieślowski Interviews with cowriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz, composer Zbigniew Preisner, and actors Julie Delpy, Irène Jacob, and Zbigniew Zamachowski Selected-scene commentary featuring actor Juliette Binoche Video essays by film critics Annette Insdorf, Tony Rayns, and Dennis Lim Documentary from 1995 featuring Kieślowski Three short films by Kieślowski—The Tram (1966), Seven Women of Different Ages (1978), and Talking Heads (1980)—plus the short film The Face (1966), starring Kieślowski Interview programs on Kieślowski’s life and work, featuring Binoche, Insdorf, Jacob, film critic Geoff Andrew, filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, cinematographer Sławomir Idziak, producer Marin Karmitz, and editor Jacques Witta Behind-the-scenes programs for White and Red, and a short documentary on Red’s world premiere Trailers PLUS: Essays by film critics Colin MacCabe, Nick James, Stuart Klawans, and Georgina Evans; an excerpt from Kieślowski on Kieślowski; and reprinted interviews with cinematographers Idziak, Edward Kłosiński, and Piotr Sobociński BLUE In the devastating first film of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors trilogy, Juliette Binoche gives a tour de force performance as Julie, a woman reeling from the tragic death of her husband and young daughter. But Blue is more than just a blistering study of grief; it’s also a tale of liberation, as Julie attempts to free herself from the past while confronting truths about the life of her late husband, a composer. Shot in sapphire tones by Sławomir Idziak, and set to an extraordinary operatic score by Zbigniew Preisner, Blue is an overwhelming sensory experience. WHITE The most playful and also the grittiest of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors films follows the adventures of Karol Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski), a Polish immigrant living in France. The hapless hairdresser opts to leave Paris for his native Warsaw when his wife (Julie Delpy) sues him for divorce (her reason: their marriage was never consummated) and then frames him for arson after setting her own salon ablaze. White, which goes on to chronicle Karol’s elaborate revenge plot, manages to be both a ticklish dark comedy about the economic inequalities of Eastern and Western Europe and a sublime reverie on twisted love. RED Krzysztof Kieślowski closes his Three Colors trilogy in grand fashion, with an incandescent meditation on fate and chance, starring Irène Jacob as a sweet-souled yet somber runway model in Geneva whose life dramatically intersects with that of a bitter retired judge, played by Jean-Louis Trintignant. Meanwhile, just down the street, a seemingly unrelated story of jealousy and betrayal unfolds. Red is an intimate look at forged connections and a splendid final statement from a remarkable filmmaker at the height of his powers.

Description
Burning with stylistic freedom, the first three features by Leos Carax are cinema at its most ecstatically sensorial and deliriously romantic. Built around virtuosic, intensely physical performances from Denis Lavant as three different characters named Alex, these tales of outsiders, criminals, and doomed lovers living on the edge blaze with the whirlwind abandon of youth and the thrilling highs and torturous lows of all-consuming passion. Love letters to the city of Paris, with its streets transformed by cinematographer Jean-Yves Escoffier into expressive dreamscapes, these three films erupt in moments of anarchic euphoria that fuse sound and image to heart-stopping effect. DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restorations, with uncompressed monaural (Boy Meets Girl and Mauvais sang) and 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio (The Lovers on the Bridge) soundtracks Three 4K UHD discs of the films (with The Lovers on the Bridge presented in Dolby Vision HDR) and three Blu-rays with the films and special features It’s Not Me (2024), a self-portrait film by director Leos Carax New interviews with actor Denis Lavant and editor Nelly Quettier New video essay on the cinematography of Jean-Yves Escoffier Meet the Filmmakers: Leos Carax, a Criterion Channel original interview Mr. X: A Vision of Leos Carax (2014), a documentary on Carax’s work Le Pont-Neuf des amants (1991), a documentary on the making of the main set for The Lovers on the Bridge Deleted scene, rushes, screen tests, behind-the-scenes footage, and trailers New English subtitle translation PLUS: An essay by author Amina Cain BOY MEETS GIRL Made when he was just twenty-three years old, Leos Carax’s rapturous debut feature returns French cinema to the unfettered experimentation of the New Wave while updating it for the punk 1980s. In velvety black and white, Boy Meets Girl evokes a surreal nocturnal Paris populated by lost souls and wandering misfits, including Alex (Denis Lavant), a disaffected would-be filmmaker whose girlfriend has just left him for his best friend, and Mireille (Mireille Perrier), an aspiring actress nursing her own heartbreak. Drawn together by fate, they share a moment of intense, fleeting connection as bright-burning and ephemeral as youth itself. MAUVAIS SANG With his exhilarating second feature, Leos Carax infuses a neonoir scenario with a delirious strain of doomed romanticism for a tour de force of avant-pop invention. Amid the spread of STBO—a sexually transmitted disease acquired by having sex without emotion—a young ex-con (Denis Lavant) is recruited by a veteran criminal (Michel Piccoli) to steal the antidote, only to find himself entangled in a dangerous affair with his new associate’s lover (Juliette Binoche). Constructed with the kinetic verve of a musical, Mauvais sang explodes in moments of pure cinematic adrenaline, from a dizzying skydive to Lavant’s heart-pounding nighttime sprint set to David Bowie’s “Modern Love.” THE LOVERS ON THE BRIDGE With this feverish saga of amour fou, Leos Carax pushed his ambitions to glorious new heights. Michèle (Juliette Binoche), an artist who is losing her sight, meets Alex (Denis Lavant), a homeless street performer, while sleeping rough on Paris’s centuries-old Pont-Neuf, beginning an obsessive affair that soon collides with crushing reality. The result of an infamously lengthy, arduous production, The Lovers on the Bridge is a bracing plunge into life on the city’s turbulent margins—a visually arresting, musically intoxicating film that is never more dazzling than when the lovers water-ski madly across the Seine amid a shower of fireworks.
Product Description Surf's Up is an animated feature that goes behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing. The film profiles Cody Maverick, an up-and-coming surfer as he enters his first pro competition. Amazon.com Surf's Up is a computer-animated sports mockumentary about penguin surfing contests, which makes it stand out from the crowd of penguin movies. The story unfolds as it would on ESPN, with interviews (with penguins) overlapping footage of (penguin) surfing action, gradually unveiling the tale of Cody Maverick (voiced by Shia LaBeouf, Holes), a young penguin from Antarctica with dreams of winning a surfing competition--a competition named after his idol, the missing Big Z (Jeff Bridges, The Big Lebowski). But when he joins the competition, Cody finds his zeal for winning may not be enough to defeat the cruel reigning champ, Tank Evans (Diedrich Bader, Grim & Evil). The story of Surf's Up is typical stuff: Youngster learns to value friendship over material success. But the documentary style gives the movie a different rhythm from the usual feature-length cartoon; it stutters and skips around, dithers on side topics, and backtracks to catch up with supporting characters. Some viewers may be annoyed, but others--perhaps the more media-savvy--will find it a refreshing change of pace. (Kids who don't watch much sports, however, may just find it confusing.) Surf's Up also features the voices of James Woods (Hercules), Zooey Deschanel (Elf), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). --Bret Fetzer

In this faithful and compelling adaptation of Anton Chekhov s timeless classic, director Laurence Olivier demonstrates the same facility for cinematic expression that made his filmed versions of Hamlet and Richard III so definitive. In Olivier s assuredly brisk, graceful, meticulous, and witty rendering of Chekhov s masterpiece, the sisters (Joan Plowright, Louise Pernell, Jeannie Watts) are doomed to remain in their provincial purgatory, nearly a thousand miles away from their beloved Moscow. Intoxicated by yesterday s triumphs and heedless of tomorrow s disasters, the three sisters are left to sift through the debris of their shattered dreams on the eve of the social and political upheaval that will transform Russia forever. A vivid, visceral MacBeth adaptation, Throne of Blood, directed by Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai), sets Shakespeare's definitive tale of ambition and duplicity in a ghostly, fog-enshrouded landscape in feudal Japan. As a tough warrior who rises savagely to power, Toshiro Mifune (Yojimbo) gives a remarkable, animalistic performance, as does Isuzu Yamada (Black River) as his ruthless wife. Throne of Blood fuses classical Western tragedy with formal elements taken from Noh theater to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Description
No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This box set comprises 12 classic martial arts films from the famous Shaw Brothers' library. Many of these films are debuting for the first time on Blu-ray. Get ready for some exciting thrills and chills as our iconic heroes square off against abominable villains in a duel to the death! Have Sword, Will Travel: Internationally acclaimed director Chang Cheh teams David Chiang and Ti Lung for the second time in the classic heroic bloodshed epic Have Sword, Will Travel, its title inspired by the lone gunman Hollywood hit TV show Have Gun—Will Travel. Ti Lung is the armor of an "armored van" taking silver to the capital. Along the way, a mysterious knight (David Chiang) stalks him. Although he appears to be the robber, his intentions prove to be far more mysterious. The Heroic Ones: No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This is their quintessential historical epic, set during the waning years of the Tang Dynasty. It's literally brother against brother as David Chiang and Ti Lung display their remarkable martial arts prowess—battling insiders and outsiders in a duel to the death for the fate of China. Vengeance!: David Chiang plays a psychotic man out to avenge the death of his older brother (Ti Lung) in this tale of retribution and paying the ultimate price. The action by acclaimed choreographers Tang Chia and Yuen Cheung-yan (The Grandmaster, The Matrix Reloaded) is just as psychotic. Chang Cheh won Best Director and David Chiang's haunting performance earned him the Best Actor Award at the 1970 Asian Film Festival. The Anonymous Heroes: Director Chang Cheh and his stars Ti Lung and David Chiang were known as the iron triangle for their many successful films together. But perhaps they should have been known as the iron rectangle because of the invaluable contributions of action choreographer Lau Kar-leung. This post-Chinese Revolution adventure of rebels battling warlords is a prime example of the quartet's remarkable skills behind and in front of the camera. Their teamwork made this a 1971 top-ten hit. The Deadly Duo: It's the Sung Dynasty versus the Chin invaders as the iron triangle truly hit their stride with this crowd-pleasing kung fu epic. When a handsome prince is taken captive and guarded by a martial arts master, it's up to two powerful patriots to fight overwhelming odds. From the first fascinating minute to the final desperate battle—culminating in an unforgettably evocative conclusion—this duo is dynamic as well as deadly. Duel of Fists: Another triumph for the iron triangle, not to mention for action choreographer Liu Chia-liang as well. David Chiang is a Chinese boxer who travels to Bangkok in search of his lost brother, who may or may not be the Thai boxer played by Ti Lung. This kung fu/Thai boxing combo was one of the megahits of 1971, second only to Bruce Lee's The Big Boss. The Duel: In the days before Bruce Lee became a superstar, the greatest heroes in Hong Kong cinema were the majestic Ti Lung and the charismatic David Chiang. The year after they exploded into superstardom in Chang Cheh's landmark teen rebellion action film, Vengeance!, they returned in this mano-a-mano classic as an adopted son struggling with familial fears and a streetwise knight-errant named "Rambler." The two distrust each other until they survive a trial by fire…and fists. The Angry Guest: When a vengeful Japanese gangster has our heroes' mother murdered and one of their girlfriends kidnapped, it's terror in Tokyo and horror in Hong Kong in this renowned sequel to Duel of Fists (featuring director Chang Cheh himself in a rare on-screen appearance as a triad boss!). The esteemed Yasuaki Kurata, the future co-star of Jet Li's Fist of Legend, adds to the fight-filled fun in a film filled with international favorites. All Men Are Brothers: This is the long-awaited sequel to the martial arts blockbuster The Water Margin. Finally, its many international fans can see this action-packed follow-up, based on one of China's most enduring 14th-century novels. Also known as Seven Soldiers of Kung Fu and 108 Heroes, it is truly an epic by any name, featuring a cast of perennial kung fu favorites, and no less than four action choreographers. The Blood Brothers: Set in the waning years of the Ching Dynasty, this dramatic, tragic, romantic, and blood-soaked martial arts tale of betrayal and revenge explores one of the most sensational scandals in Chinese history…and marked the true ascension of its director and actors to superstar status. In fact, Ti Lung won Golden Horse Awards of Outstanding Performance for his challenging role of a jealous provincial governor who kills his friend in order to steal the man's wife. The Savage 5: The heroes are savage because the villains are brutal, cruel, and vicious. At first, a gang just wants the village locksmith to open a stolen safe, but it soon escalates into torment. Though reminiscent of The Seven Samurai, The Savage 5 distinguishes itself well as the director and his revered action choreographers, Liu Chia-liang and Tang Chia, design each of its many struggles with gritty depravity and desperate power. The result is an especially realistic, even grueling, exercise in white-knuckle suspense. 7 Man Army: In 1933, 20,000 Japanese soldiers and 50 tanks invaded the Pa Tou Lou Tzu, a strategic key point of the Great Wall. With only seven men stationed in defense, these heroes took on the entire army for five days before succumbing. Director Chang Cheh recreated this epic battle with a stellar cast, including Ti Lung, David Chiang, Alexander Fu Sheng, and Chen Kuan-tai, as a celluloid tribute to these nameless souls. From Robert Siodmak, the brilliant director of The Suspect, The Spiral Staircase, The Killers, Cry of the City, Criss Cross and Deported, comes this lush, noir-tinged melodrama set in 19th-century New England. Phyllis Calvert (The Man in Grey, Indiscreet) is young housekeeper Kate Fernald, who falls in love with Christopher Fortune, played by Robert Hutton (The Steel Helmet, They Came from Beyond Space). Christopher is a wealthy ship captain’s son who would rather study music than the sea. Aware that their union is not to be, Kate renounces her true love and encourages him to wed someone from his own social class. As the years go by, Kate is the mute witness to Christopher’s frustration and unhappiness, culminating in a fatal bout with alcohol. Ella Raines (Phantom Lady, The Web) is stunning as Christopher’s “sensible” sister Rissa, while Eddie Albert (Attack!), Leo G. Description
A true twentieth-century trailblazer, Harvey Milk was an outspoken human rights activist and the first openly gay U.S. politician elected to public office; even after his assassination, in 1978, he continues to inspire disenfranchised people around the world. The Oscar-winning The Times of Harvey Milk, directed by Robert Epstein (The Celluloid Closet, Paragraph 175) and produced by Richard Schmiechen, was, like its subject, groundbreaking. One of the first feature documentaries to address gay life in America, it’s a work of advocacy itself, bringing Milk’s message of hope and equality to a wider audience. This exhilarating trove of archival footage and heartfelt interviews is as much a vivid portrait of a time and place (San Francisco’s historic Castro District in the seventies) as a testament to the legacy of a political visionary.

Description
In a bizarre blending of art and politics, the 1912 Titanic disaster was turned by German filmmakers-working under the watchful eye of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels-into a drama filled with attacks on British society, some fictitious German crew members, and an anti-capitalism theme. Footage of the liner's sinking was later swiped for 1958's "A Night to Remember." Hans Nielsen, Sybille Schmitz, Otto Wernicke star. 85 min. Standard; Soundtrack: German; Subtitles: English; newsreel footage; photo gallery; theatrical trailer; White Star Line promotional film. In German with English subtitles.

Description
One of the iconoclastic Pier Paolo Pasolini’s most radical provocations, Teorema finds the auteur moving beyond the poetic, proletarian earthiness that first won him renown and notoriety with a coolly cryptic exploration of bourgeois spiritual emptiness. Terence Stamp stars as the mysterious stranger—perhaps an angel, perhaps a devil—who, one by one, seduces the members of a wealthy Milanese family (including European cinema icons Silvana Mangano, Massimo Girotti, Laura Betti, and Anne Wiazemsky), precipitating an existential crisis in each of their lives. Unfolding nearly wordlessly in a procession of sacred and profane images, this tantalizing metaphysical riddle—blocked from exhibition by the Catholic Church for degeneracy—is at once a blistering Marxist treatise on sex, religion, and art and a primal scream into the void. BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New, restored 4K digital transfer, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack • Alternate English-dubbed soundtrack, featuring the voice of actor Terence Stamp and others • Audio commentary from 2007 featuring Robert S. C. Gordon, author of Pasolini: Forms of Subjectivity • Introduction by director Pier Paolo Pasolini from 1969 • Interview from 2007 with Stamp • New interview with John David Rhodes, author of Stupendous, Miserable City: Pasolini’s Rome • New English subtitle translation • More! • PLUS: An essay by film scholar James Quandt

Description
As nervy as it is hilarious, this screwball masterpiece from Ernst Lubitsch (Trouble in Paradise) stars Jack Benny (The Jack Benny Program) and, in her final screen appearance, Carole Lombard (My Man Godfrey) as husband-and-wife thespians in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who become caught up in a dangerous spy plot. TO BE OR NOT TO BE is a Hollywood film of the boldest black humor, which went into production soon after the U.S. entered World War II. Lubitsch manages to brilliantly balance political satire, romance, slapstick, and urgent wartime suspense in a comic high-wire act that has never been equaled.
