Description

During the Manchurian-ruled Qing Dynasty, Emperor Yong Zheng established a secret assassination squad known as the Guillotines to eliminate all who opposed him. Once heavily favored by the Emperor, the Guillotines are deemed expendable once Emperor Qian Long ascends to the throne and adopts Western ideas and technology. To consolidate his power under a new regime, the Emperor continues to use the Guillotines to persecute the conquered Han Chinese in a reign of terror and oppression. Led by master fighter Leng, the top ranked guillotine squad consists of five young warriors: Mu, San, Tai, Hutu, Buka. Serving the Qing Court unquestioningly, they have never failed in 348 missions to eliminate their targets. But their success has made them arrogant and complacent. Their next mission is to eliminate Wolf and his Shepherd gang. During the operation, the squad manages to trap Wolf. Just as they are about to execute him, the squad commander orders that he be captured alive. He secretly plans to use Wolf as a pawn in his bid for power. Wolf s gang of rebels ambushes the Guillotines in their moment of hesitation. Wolf escapes, taking Mu hostage. With reports that Wolf has fled to the outer frontiers, the squad tracks him to a remote village outpost. On the other hand, the Emperor has sent his most trusted agent Du for the same mission and most importantly, to end the era of the Guillotines by replacing cold weapons with firearms. If only they make one false move, they will become the hunted. Facing annihilation, Leng and his Guillotines must outfight and outwit enemies from both sides. Product Description LOVE MADE THEM CRAZY. GUNS MADE THEM OUTLAWS. Since Anita Minteer (Drew Barrymore, 50 First Dates) was nine, every man she ever met has wanted only one thing. But when she becomes pen-pals with imprisoned convict Howard Hickock (James LeGros, Drugstore Cowboy), she gains self-confidence and sees a possible escape from the torment of her everyday life. Howard's infatuation with guns drives Anita to them as well. But with this new found strength in her hands, she murders her sexually abusive guardian. Now with Howard out on parole and the police on their back, there can be no turning back. In the style of BONNIE & CLYDE, GUNCRAZY tells the story of two young lovers on the run from the law. GUNCRAZY marks the directorial debut of Tamra Davis (Crossroads, Billy Madison) with a Golden Globe® nominated performance by Drew Barrymore and an all-star supporting cast that includes Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan), Rodney Harvey (My Own Private Idaho), Michael Ironside (Top Gun), Ione Skye (Say Anything…) and Billy Drago (The Untouchables). SPECIAL FEATURES: High Definition (1080p) presentation of the main feature in 1.78:1 aspect ratio Audio: English 2.0 LPCM Stereo, 5.1 Surround Mix, Spanish 2.0 Stereo English and Spanish Subtitles Audio Commentary from director Tamra Davis and star Drew Barrymore NEW! “The Making of Guncrazy” (HD, 88:57) NEW! “Portrait of a Director: Tamra Davis” (HD, 39:12) 5 Behind the Scenes Clips on the Set of ‘Guncrazy’ (SD) “The Making of Guncrazy” Original 1992 featurette (SD, 19:39) 2 Theatrical Trailers (SD) Reversible sleeve Collectible Mini-Poster Review Set against the kind of down-at-heel trailer park rarely seen in recent American cinema, this powerful and unexpectedly good low-budgeter seems decades away from the staple wish-fulfillment fantasy of most 90s teen movies. Rooted in the ambiguously doomed 70s spirit of Badlands or Thieves Like Us, with a few Thelma & Louise licks thrown in for good measure, this has a title no doubt intentionally identical to Gun Crazy, the 1949 offering that, along with They Live By Night, inaugurated the killer couple-on-the-road movie. Anita (Barrymore), a dirt-poor schoolgirl , enters into a remarkably pure but dangerous relationship with pen-pal James Le Gros, a gun-happy and none-too-bright convict. After learning how to use a gun in preparation for her first meeting with her dream guy, Anita murders her mother's sexually abusive boyfriend (Dallesandro) almost for the practice, and when her paroled man comes to town, circumstances force them into further killing. In Bonnie And Clyde mode, the well-intentioned outlaws (when they try to rob a bar, the customers plead poverty and the pair feel obliged to give back the money) dash across country to find Anita's mother, a junkie hooker. The downbeat storyline is familiar right to the gloomy ending, but the script is tough and gritty and all the supporting cast are excellent. Michael Ironside and Billy Drago, usually seen as psycho villains, here show they can act, as a probation officer and a snake-handling preacher respectively, while lone Skye turns in another weirdly stoned cameo as Ironside's airhead daughter. Director Davis does especially good work with the pouting Barrymore, who successfully broke into the adult phase of her career. Tough and gritty, and featuring Barrymore's graduation from teen starlet to can-act movie star, Guncrazy has much to recommend it. --Kim Newman, Empire Excellent screenplay... Director Tamra Davis has made a remarkably rich melodrama with a strong narrative line and vivid characters... Very accomplished... cruelly entertaining... ''Guncrazy'' pays homage to its predecessors while also sending them up. --Vincent Canby, The New York Times Top About this item Similar From the Brand Reviews Guncrazy: Collector's Edition [Blu-ray]

Product Description Once upon a time in 'Fairy Tale Land', all is going well: Cinderella's at the ball, Rapunzel's letting her hair down, and Sleeping Beauty's about to get a big smooch. But just as it's all headed for 'Happily Ever After', there's a slight hitch: the wise Wizard--who keeps the scales of good and evil in balance--goes on holiday, resulting in his two assistants, Munk and Mambo, slipping up and letting Cinderella's wicked stepmother, Frieda, get hold of his magic staff. With this, Frieda is able to take over 'Fairy Tale Land', let the bad guys win, and turn the ending into 'Happily N'Ever After'. Now Cinderella--'Ella' to her friends--is playing in a whole new ball game. Instead of waiting for her handsome prince to find her, she's got to wake up from her romantic dream, find a way to stop Frieda, and restore the balance of good and evil. With her best friend at her side, and an unlikely army of dwarves, fairies, and Munk and Mambo to back her up, Ella leaps into action. Can she save the d Amazon.com With the success of Shrek, more irreverent animated fairy tales (like Hoodwinked) were inevitable. Unfortunately, the original blockbuster set the bar so high--for characterization, humor, and heart--that other such 'toons are sure to seem redundant. Neither as clever nor as intricately rendered as the tale of the great green ogre, Happily N'Ever After is no exception. That said, small children may find it easier to follow, i.e. no Matrix references. As with the live-action Ella Enchanted, the CGI-animated story revolves around a downtrodden lass named Ella (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Her full name, naturally, is Cinderella. The man of her dreams is pea-brained Prince Humperdink (Patrick Warburton). Little does she know that royal dishwasher Rick (Freddie Prinze Jr., Gellar's real-life husband) has his eye on her. When the Wizard (George Carlin) goes off on a golfing vacation, he leaves bumbling assistants Munk (Wallace Shawn) and Mambo (Andy Dick) in charge. In no time at all, they get into a scuffle, and Ella's evil stepmother, Frieda (Sigourney Weaver), swoops in to take control of Fairy Tale Land. Her first order of business: Let the bad guys win. Consequently, Sleeping Beauty continues to doze, the Seven Dwarves wind up in jail, etc. Ella joins forces with Rick to set things right. Along the way, she realizes that the lowly lad has more princely qualities than the actual prince, and Frieda's reign turns out to be shorter than intended. It's not a bad idea, but the movie drags and the tunes are unmemorable. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

There were several masters of animation during Hollywood's golden era. Of the top two geniuses, one created elaborate fairy tales and ornate feature-length fantasias -- the other guy was Tex Avery. He just wanted to make you laugh. Having already been integrally involved in the development of Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny for Warner Bros., Avery moved to MGM in 1941 to create a set of comedy masterpieces that defined a new slapstick style for animation, inspiring cartoonists, comedians and filmmakers for decades to come. Avery's unit at Metro Goldwyn Mayer was all about breaking the fourth wall, shattering expectations and making audiences fall down with laughter. His one-shot masterpieces, including Bad Luck Blackie, Red Hot Riding Hood and Symphony in Slang, have proven themselves pure gold. And continuing characters like Droopy, Screwball Squirrel and George & Junior -- not to mention Spike, Red and The Wolf -- remain unforgettable comic personas among the top rank of cartoondom. Avery's cartoons were ahead of their time -- and their time has come. Finally committed to Blu-ray , this first collection of restored Technicolor shorts feels fresh and new, and is funnier than ever. This set will delight young and old -- and will amaze a new generation ready to laugh again. -- JERRY BECK, Animation Historian

WE HAVE SUCH SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU… In the 1980s, Clive Barker changed the face of horror fiction, throwing out the rules to expose new vistas of terror and beauty, expanding the horizons for every genre writer who followed him. With Hellraiser, his first feature film, he did the same for cinema. Hedonist Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) thinks he has reached the limits of earthly pleasure. But a mysterious puzzle box will take him further than he can possibly imagine, opening the doors to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible and summoning the Cenobites, whose experiments in the higher reaches of experience will tear his soul apart. When he manages to escape, Frank returns to the world skinless and in need of help. Now his former lover Julia (Clare Higgins) must kill to make him whole again. Screen legend John Wayne pays tribute to oil field legend "Red" Adair in Hellfighters. Chance Buckman (Wayne), is a colorful Texan who tames out-of-control infernos in exotic locations around the world. He is joined by a crew that includes Jack Lomax (Jay C. Flippen), Joe Horn (Bruce Cabot) and his assistant, Greg Parker (Jim Hutton). Between blazes, Chance "carries the torch" for Madelyn, the wife who left him 20 years earlier because of his dangerous lifestyle. Meanwhile, Greg has his hands full at the poker table and in the bedroom with Chance's spunky daughter, Tish (Katharine Ross). Directed by action veteran, Andrew V. McLaglen, this film features sizzling special effects and exciting locations in Texas and Wyoming. Top About this item Similar From the Brand Reviews Hellfighters [Blu-ray]

But the Cenobites want Frank back, and there’ll be hell to pay when they find him. Hellbound: Hellraiser II expands on Barker’s original vision as screenwriter Peter Atkins takes Julia Cotton, her step daughter Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) and the sinister Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham) into the dominion of the Cenobites themselves. Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth sees Pinhead set loose on the sinful streets of New York City to create chaos with a fresh cadre of Cenobitic kin. Then, Hellraiser: Bloodline sinks its hooks into past, present and future with the story of Phillip LeMarchand, the 18th-century toymaker who made the lament configuration puzzle box, his descendent John Merchant – a 20th-century architect whose most recent building bears a striking resemblance to the lament configuration – and Dr. Paul Merchant, a 22nd-century engineer and designer of The Minos, a space station which is a great deal more than it seems. Based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart, Barker’s Hellraiser sees Larry (Andrew Robinson) and his wife Julia (Clare Higgins) move into their new home, unaware that something evil lurks beneath the floorboards of the dilapidated house – something that wants human blood… Introducing the world to the iconic Pinhead and his sadistic band of Cenobites, Hellraiser became an instant genre classic upon release and remains one of the most frighteningly original visions in horror. In 1963, director Herschell Gordon Lewis pulled a cow s tongue out of an actress mouth on camera, and in doing so, changed the landscape of horror cinema forever. That sequence was just one of numerous gruesome gags featured in Blood Feast, the film credited as being the world s first gore movie. It s no exaggeration to say that the modern gross-out movies of today owe their very existence to the pioneering efforts of H.G. Lewis. But whilst Lewis is most widely celebrated for his blood-and-guts epics (Two Thousand Maniacs!, The Wizard of Gore et al.), there s more to the prolific director than splatter. From tales of sordid photographers (Scum of the Earth) to sex robots (How to Make a Doll), from biker girl-gangs (She-Devils on Wheels) to youths-run-amok (Just for the Hell of It), and from psychic witches (Something Weird) to hard liquor-loving hillbillies (Moonshine Mountain), the filmography of H.G. Lewis reads like a veritable wish-list of exploitation movie madness. Now, for the first time ever, Arrow Video is proud to present fourteen of the Godfather of Gore s most essential films (including nine Blu-ray world debuts), collected together in a Limited Edition set (only 2,500 in the U.S.) and packed full of eye-popping bonus content. So put your feet up, pour yourself a glass of good ol moonshine, and prepare yourself for a feast H.G. Lewis style!
