In his breakthrough second feature, Bong Joon Ho explodes the conventions of the policier with thrillingly subversive, genre-defying results. Based on the true story of a string of serial killings that rocked a rural community in the 1980s, Memories of Murder stars New Korean Cinema icon Song Kang Ho as the local officer who reluctantly joins forces with a seasoned Seoul detective (Kim Sang Kyung) to investigate the crimes—leading each man on a wrenching, yearslong odyssey of failure and frustration that will drive him to the existential edge. Combining a gripping procedural with a vivid social portrait of the everyday absurdity of life under military rule, Bong fashions a haunting journey into ever-deepening darkness that begins as a black-comic satire and ends as a soul-shattering encounter with the abyss. This film by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea is the most widely renowned work in the history of Cuban cinema. After his wife and family flee in the wake of the Bay of Pigs invasion, the bourgeois intellectual Sergio (Sergio Corrieri) passes his days wandering Havana in idle reflection, his amorous entanglements and political ambivalence gradually giving way to a mounting sense of alienation. With this adaptation of an innovative novel by Edmundo Desnoes, Gutiérrez Alea developed a cinematic style as radical as the times he was chronicling, creating a collage of vivid impressions through the use of experimental editing techniques, archival material, and spontaneously shot street scenes. Intimate and densely layered, Memories of Underdevelopment provides a biting indictment of its protagonist’s disengagement and an extraordinary glimpse of life in postrevolutionary Cuba. BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack • New interviews with film critics B. Ruby Rich and José Antonio Évora • New interview with novelist and screenwriter Edmundo Desnoes • Titón: From Havana to “Guantanamera,” a 2008 feature-length documentary on director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea’s life and career • Segment from a 1989 audio interview with Gutiérrez Alea • Segments from 2017 interviews with actor Daisy Granados and editor Nelson Rodríguez from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Visual History Collection archives • Trailer • New English subtitle translation • PLUS: An essay by author Joshua Jelly-Schapiro

After 24 successful bombing runs, the battle-hardened crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Memphis Belle has just one more mission to fly before they can return home. That real-life 25th mission -- first chronicled in director William Wyler's 1944 World War II documentary about a critical daylight raid into the heart of Germany -- is spectacularly re-created in this nail-biting 1990 airborne adventure. Producers David Puttnam (Chariots of Fire, The Killing Fields) and Catherine Wyler (William's daughter) have teamed an all-star cast (Matthew Modine; Eric Stoltz; Sean Astin; Harry Connick, Jr.; and John Lithgow) with director Michael Caton-Jones (Rob Roy, The Jackal) to celebrate the extraordinary heroism of ordinary joes at war.

Product Description With little respect for their superiors, and even less for the law, garbage collectors Charlie Sheen (Wall Street, Platoon) and Emilio Estevez (Young Guns, The Breakfast Club) have made trouble a way of life. Practical jokers with a gift for the truly twisted gag, the two pranksters glide through work with one eye on the ladies and the other on the surf shop they dream of owning. But their fun-loving life is turned upside down when they discover the corpse of a local politician - and realize they will be prime suspects. Pursued by both the police and the real killers, Sheen and Estevez know that to save their hides, they'll have to solve the case.Hilarious supporting performances from Leslie Hope (Talk Radio), Keith David (They Live), Dean Cameron (Summer School) and Cameron Dye (Valley Girl) and an all-star soundtrack keeps things hot as they careen through kidnappings, car chases, and an unlikely romance, all in the name of justice... It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it! Review The movie's desire to please is tireless, also engaging. Mr. Estevez's screenplay is not entirely coherent, but it has a number of comically crackpot lines. --Vincent Canby, The New York Times The grotesque practical jokes perpetrated against two interfering bumblers are genuinely funny, while Estevez and Sheen remain cutely goofy even when indulging themselves in this adolescent idiocy. --Time Out When I was reading it [Men at Work script], I thought it was so good, so close to my bone, that I had written it! --Writer / Director John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off)

Product Description John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan rose from obscurity and in the process built modern America. Their names hang on street signs, are etched into buildings and are a part of the fabric of history. These men created the American Dream and were the engine of capitalism as they transformed everything they touched in building the oil, rail, steel, shipping, automobile and finance industries. Their paths crossed repeatedly as they elected presidents, set economic policies and influenced major events of the 50 most formative years this country has ever known. From the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War I, they led the way. Amazon.com The Men Who Built America were quite a quintet. Cornelius Vanderbilt, who had already made a fortune in ships, saw which way the wind was blowing, invested in railroads, and became the richest man in America. John D. Rockefeller revolutionized the oil business, from refining to delivery, with Standard Oil. Andrew Carnegie was the first great steel magnate. J.P. Morgan controlled the electricity market, consolidated the steel industry after Carnegie, and was "the creator of modern finance," while Henry Ford constructed the automobile assembly line and made cars affordable to everyone. But these were not merely brilliant entrepreneurs, visionaries who had great ideas and the will and wherewithal to see them through to fruition, in the process helping America emerge from the ruins of the Civil War and become the greatest nation on Earth in just a few short decades. The way this History Channel production tells it, with its bluesy theme music, emphasis on dramatically re-created Big Moments, and generally overheated POV (a challenge from a competitor is nothing less than "a declaration of war"), Vanderbilt et al. were outlaws and rock stars, tough, macho men who strode the Earth like colossi, crushing lesser beings with their ingenuity, acumen, and very large piles of money. Indeed, although it has some typical documentary elements (like occasional use of file footage and photos), The Men Who Built America is really more of a docudrama; the characters are all portrayed by actors (none of them household names, except maybe in their own homes) mouthing scripted dialogue; and while there are a few historians, academics, and biographers on hand, most of the people who offer their modern-day insights are celebrity business figures like Donald Trump, Mark Cuban, Steve Wynn, Ted Turner, Charles Schwab, and Carly Fiorina. This is not a bad thing. The style takes some getting used to, but in the end, the eight-episode miniseries is both entertaining and enlightening, providing information about such events as the financial panic of 1873, how the refinement of oil into kerosene brought light into Americans' homes, the role played by Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Morgan in the election of President William McKinley in 1896, and the efforts of reformers like William Jennings Bryan and Theodore Roosevelt to put an end to the vast monopolies they'd created. --Sam Graham

Picking up where Volume One left off, this sophomore collection of Hong Kong cinema classics draws together many of the best films from the final years of the Shaw Brothers studio, proving that while the end was nigh, these merchants of martial arts mayhem weren’t going to go out without a fight! Armed with stunning special features and ravishing new restorations, this boxset is even bigger and bolder than the last one. We begin with kung fu master Lau Kar-leung’s instant classic The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, in which his adoptive brother Gordon Liu achieved overnight stardom as the young man who unexpectedly finds spiritual enlightenment on the path to vengeance; Lau and Liu followed the original with two comically inventive sequels, Return to the 36th Chamber and Disciples of the 36th Chamber, both included here. Already established as a genius at blending dazzling action with physical comedy, Lau himself plays the lead role in the hilarious Mad Monkey Kung Fu, coupled here with Lo Mar’s underrated Five Superfighters. Next, we once again meet Chang Cheh’s basher boy band the Venom Mob in no less than four of their best-loved team-ups: Invincible Shaolin, The Kid with the Golden Arm, Magnificent Ruffians and culminating in the all-star Ten Tigers of Kwangtung, co-starring Ti Lung and Fu Sheng. After Lau brings us perhaps his best high-kicking comedy with My Young Auntie, a playful star vehicle for his real-life muse Kara Hui, we see Shaw Brothers fully embracing Eighties excess in our strangest double feature yet: Wong Jing’s breathtakingly wild shoot-‘em-up Mercenaries from Hong Kong, and Kuei Chih-hung’s spectacularly unhinged black magic meltdown The Boxer’s Omen. Last but certainly not least, Lau Kar-leung directs the last major Shaw production, Martial Arts of Shaolin, filmed in mainland China with a hot new talent named Jet Li in the lead role; it is paired in this set with The Bare-Footed Kid, a reverent remake of a Chang Cheh classic with Johnnie To (Running Out of Time) in the director’s chair and Lau back on fight choreography duties, in arguably the ultimate filmed tribute to Shaws’ everlasting cinematic legacy. Product Description New German Cinema icon Rainer Werner Fassbinder (World on a Wire) kicked off a new phase of his young career when he made the startling The Merchant of Four Seasons. In this despairing yet mordantly funny film, Fassbinder charts the decline of a self-destructive former policeman and war veteran struggling to make ends meet for his family by working as a fruit vendor. Fassbinder had skyrocketed to renown on the acclaim of a series of trenchant, quickly made early films, but for this one he took more time and forged a new style - featuring a more complexly woven script and narrative structure and more sophisticated use of the camera, and influenced by the work of his recently discovered idol, Douglas Sirk. The result is a meticulously made, unforgiving social satire.
