Screen legend Anthony Hopkins (When Eight Bells Toll, The Silence of the Lambs, Nixon) stars with Kristin Scott Thomas (Bitter Moon, The English Patient) and Derek Jacobi (Three Sisters, TV’s I, Claudius) in this compelling World War II drama based on the novel by Graham Greene (The Third Man). Jean-Louis Chavel (Hopkins), a wealthy French lawyer living quietly under Nazi occupation, is seized in a random police raid and thrown into a Paris jail with 29 other innocent men. Marked for the firing squad, he convinces a poor, dying prisoner to take his place by promising his entire estate to the man’s penniless kin. Once freed, the guilt-ridden Chavel returns to his former home and tries to help the family of the man who died in his stead. As he falls in love with the dead man’s sister, Thérèse (Scott Thomas), a stranger (Jacobi in an Emmy-winning role) calling himself “Chavel” arrives on their doorstep. Co-starring Cyril Cusack (Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming) with first-rate direction by Jack Gold (Who?) and photography by Alan Hume (Runaway Train), The Tenth Man is a stylish, powerfully acted thriller from one of the twentieth century’s most acclaimed authors. Special Features: -Includes Both the 1.78:1 and 1.33:1 Versions of the Film -Trailers -Optional English Subtitles

Description
This collection features three film noir classics. SINGAPORE (1947) – Adventure and romance in the city of intrigue! The irresistible duo of Fred MacMurray (Double Indemnity, The Apartment) and Ava Gardner (The Killers, On the Beach) star in this exotic film noir from director John Brahm (The Lodger, Hangover Square). In pre-war Singapore, Matt Gordon (MacMurray) falls in love with the beautiful Linda Grahame (Gardner), but loses contact with her when the Japanese attack. Five years later, he returns to Singapore to retrieve a fortune in smuggled pearls and accidentally reconnects with Linda, now married to rich planter Van Leyden (Roland Culver, Dead of Night) and suffering from amnesia. Meanwhile, the sinister Mauribus (Thomas Gomez, Key Largo) schemes to steal Matt’s pearls. Richard Haydn (The Emperor Waltz), Spring Byington (I’ll Be Seeing You), Porter Hall (The General Died at Dawn) and Philip Ahn (China) round out the cast of this exciting, romantic noir. JOHNNY STOOL PIGEON (1949) – They cracked the back of the world’s blackest racket! A cop! A dame! A killer! Cult filmmaker William Castle, the macabre mastermind behind House on Haunted Hill, The Tingler, 13 Ghosts and Let’s Kill Uncle, delivers a different kind of shadowy suspense story with Johnny Stool Pigeon. Howard Duff (Woman in Hiding) is San Francisco-based Treasury agent George Morton, who goes undercover to break up a narcotics ring. Dan Duryea (Scarlet Street) is Johnny Evans, a convict in Alcatraz who makes a deal with George, becoming the titular “stool pigeon.” Shelley Winters (Larceny) is the ringleader’s feisty moll who gets involved in the sting. It’s cops versus smugglers in Castle’s hardboiled film noir that co-stars John McIntire (An Act of Murder), Leif Erickson (The Lady Gambles) and Tony Curtis (The Midnight Story) in an early role as a mute killer. THE RAGING TIDE (1951) – Not even the fury of the lashing sea…could match the raging passions that bound them! A San Francisco gangster is rubbed out by rival Bruno Felkin (Richard Conte, Cry of the City), who himself reports the crime to Homicide Lieutenant Kelsey (Stephen McNally, The Lady Gambles) in an alibi scheme which fails. To escape, he stows away on a fishing boat, where skipper Hamil Linder (Charles Bickford, Duel in the Sun) receives Bruno kindly. Later, Bruno enlists Hamil’s son Carl (Alex Nicol, Because of You) to do his dirty work offshore, but things turn sour when Carl takes an interest in Bruno’s girl Connie (Shelley Winters, He Ran All the Way). An exhilarating, stormy climax highlights this unique seafaring noir from prolific director George Sherman (Larceny, The Sleeping City) and ace cinematographer Russell Metty (The Stranger, Touch of Evil). Special Features: -Brand New 2K Masters -NEW Audio Commentary for SINGAPORE by Film Historian Kat Ellinger and Author/Film Historian Lee Gambin -NEW Audio Commentary for JOHNNY STOOL PIGEON by Professor and Film Scholar Jason A. Ney -NEW Audio Commentary for THE RAGING TIDE by Film Historian David Del Valle and Producer Miles Hunter -Theatrical Trailers for SINGAPORE and THE RAGING TIDE -Optional English Subtitles

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* In 1965, young producer Barbet Schroeder supplied a 16mm camera, along with color film stock, to six friends and asked them to each make a short film about a Parisian neighborhood. The resulting films were shot quickly, with low budgets, improvised takes, and live sound. According to the Chicago Reader, “the Rouch, Chabrol, and Rohmer segments shouldn’t be missed,” and The New Yorker says Rouch’s film is “one of the greatest short films ever made.” Gorgeously restored in 2K, these six vignettes offer captivating and varied glimpses of the City of Lights: "Saint Germain des Prés" by Jean Douchet "Gare du Nord" by Jean Rouch "Rue Saint Denis" by Jean-Daniel Pollet "Place de l'Étoile" by Éric Rohmer "Montparnasse et Levallois" by Jean-Luc Godard "La Muette" by Claude Chabrol Bonus Features: 1. 1965 interviews with Barbet Schroeder, Jean Rouch and Éric Rohmer. Originally aired on Swiss TV.

Description
The multifaceted, deeply personal work of Eric Rohmer has had an effect on cinema unlike any other. One of the founding critics of the history-making Cahiers du cinéma, Rohmer began translating his written manifestos to film in the 1960s, standing apart from his New Wave contemporaries with his patented brand of gently existential, hyperarticulate character studies set against vivid seasonal landscapes. This near genre unto itself was established with the audacious and wildly influential series Six Moral Tales. A succession of encounters between fragile men and the women who tempt them, Six Moral Tales unleashed on the film world a new voice, one that was at once sexy, philosophical, modern, daring, nonjudgmental, and liberating. THREE-BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New 2K digital restorations, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks • Conversation between director Eric Rohmer and filmmaker Barbet Schroeder from 2006 • Four short films by Rohmer—Presentation, or Charlotte and Her Steak (shot in 1951 and completed in 1961); Véronique and Her Dunce (1958); Nadja in Paris (1964); A Modern Coed (1966)—and one on which he advised, The Curve (1999) • “On Pascal,” a 1965 episode of the educational TV series En profil dans le texte directed by Rohmer, on the French philosopher Blaise Pascal, the subject of debate in My Night at Maud’s • Archival interviews with Rohmer; actors Jean-Claude Brialy, Béatrice Romand, Laurence de Monaghan, and Jean--Louis Trintignant; film critic Jean Douchet; and producer Pierre Cottrell • Video afterword from 2006 by filmmaker and writer Neil LaBute • Trailers • PLUS: A booklet featuring essays by critics Geoff Andrew, Ginette Vincendeau, Phillip Lopate, Kent Jones, Molly Haskell, and Armond White; excerpts from cinematographer Nestor Almendros’s 1980 autobiography; and Rohmer’s landmark 1948 essay “For a Talking Cinema”; along with an English translation of Six Moral Tales, the book of stories by Rohmer on which the films are based THE BAKERY GIRL OF MONCEAU Delicate and jazzy, The Bakery Girl of Monceau, the first entry in the Six Moral Tales series, evinces stirrings of what would become the Eric Rohmer style: unfussy naturalistic shooting, ironic first-person voice-over, and an “unknowable” woman. A law student (played by producer and future director Barbet Schroeder) with a roving eye and a large appetite stuffs himself with sugary pastries daily in order to gain the affection of a pretty brunette who works in a quaint Paris bakery. But is he truly interested, or is she just a sweet diversion? SUZANNE’S CAREER Bertrand bides his time in a casually hostile and envious friendship with Guillaume. But when Guillaume seems to be making a play for the spirited, independent Suzanne, Bertrand watches dis-approvingly. With its ragged black-and-white 16 mm photography and strong sense of 1960s Paris, Suzanne’s Career, the second of Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales, is a wonderfully evocative portrait of youthful naivete and the complicated bonds of friendship and romance. MY NIGHT AT MAUD’S In My Night at Maud’s, the brilliantly accomplished centerpiece of the Six Moral Tales series, Jean-Louis Trintignant plays Jean-Louis, one of the great conflicted figures of 1960s cinema. A Catholic engineer in his early thirties, he lives by a strict moral code and immerses himself in mathematics and the philosophy of Blaise Pascal. After spotting the delicate Françoise at Mass, he vows to make her his wife, although when he spends an unplanned night at the apartment of the bold divorcée Maud, his rigid standards are challenged. LA COLLECTIONNEUSE A bombastic, womanizing art dealer and his painter friend go to a seventeenth-century villa on the Riviera for a relaxing summer getaway. But their idyll is disturbed by the presence of the bohemian Haydée, accused of being a “collector” of men. Eric Rohmer’s first color film, La collectionneuse pushes Six Moral Tales into new, darker realms while showcasing the clever, delectably ironic battle-of-the-sexes repartee (in a script written by Rohmer and the three main actors) and effortlessly luscious Nestor Almendros photography that would define the remainder of the series. CLAIRE’S KNEE “Why would I tie myself to one woman?” asks Jerôme in Claire’s Knee, though he plans to marry a diplomat’s daughter by summer’s end. He spends his July at a lakeside boardinghouse, nursing crushes on the sixteen-year-old Laura and, more tantalizingly, her long-legged, blonde, older half sister, Claire. Baring her knee on a ladder under a blooming cherry tree, Claire unwittingly incites a moral crisis for Jerôme while creating an image that is both the iconic emblem of Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales and one of French cinema’s most enduring moments. LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON Though happily married to the adoring Hélène and expecting a second child with her, the thoroughly bourgeois executive Frédéric cannot banish from his mind the attractive Paris women he sees every day. His flirtations and fantasies remain harmless until the appearance at his office of Chloé, an audacious, unencumbered old flame played by the mesmerizing Zouzou. Love in the Afternoon, the luminous final chapter in Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales, is a tender, sobering, and wholly adult affair that leads to perhaps the most overwhelmingly emotional moment in the entire series. Sometimes the truth is lost in battle! From Ralph Nelson, the acclaimed director of Soldier in the Rain, Father Goose, Duel at Diablo, Charly and The Wilby Conspiracy, comes this graphic and uncompromising anti-racist western starring Candice Bergen (The Hunting Party), Peter Strauss (The Jericho Mile) and Donald Pleasence (The Flesh and the Fiends). After a cavalry patrol is ambushed by the Cheyenne, the two survivors, Honus Gent (Strauss), a soldier highly devoted to his duty, and Cresta (Bergen), a white woman who had lived with Native Americans for two years, must reach the safety of the nearest fort. As they travel, Honus feels a growing affection for Cresta, but he is disgusted that her sympathies lie more with the Cheyenne than the U.S. government. As they arrive at the cavalry outpost on the eve of a planned attack on a Cheyenne village, Honus will finally learn who’s been telling him the truth. Written by John Gay (Run Silent, Run Deep) from a novel by Theodore V. Olsen (The Stalking Moon), Soldier Blue features a rousing score by the great Roy Budd (Get Carter, The Black Windmill) and a strong supporting cast that includes John Anderson (Cotton Comes to Harlem), Jorge Rivero (Rio Lobo), Dana Elcar (The Nude Bomb) and director Nelson under the pseudonym Alf Elson. Special Features: -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historians Howard S. Berger and Steve Mitchell -Theatrical Trailer -Dual-Layered BD50 Disc -Optional English Subtitles

After a round of partying he can't remember, World War II veteran Dave Hirsh is placed on a bus headed for the last place he'd choose: Parkman, Indiana, the hometown Hirsh hasn't seen in well over decade. Frank Sinatra plays Hirsh, whose arrival in Parkman brings small-town hypocrisy to the unforgiving light of day in this character-driven tale directed by Vincente Minnelli and based on a novel by James Jones (whose From Here to Eternity led to Sinatra's 1953 Oscar *). In his first screen pairing with Sinatra, Dean Martin plays a sharp-witted card sharp. And Shirley MacLaine earned one of the movie's five Academy Award nominations as the good-hearted floozy with a potentially fatal attraction to Hirsh.

Get Ready for the Next Generation of Incompetence! Insanity is relative in the final installment of the Pink Panther series, starring gifted comedian Roberto Benigni (Life is Beautiful) along with Panther alumni Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), Cato Fong (Burt Kwouk) and Maria Gambrelli (Claudia Cardinale). Fueled by Benigni's wacky charm and splendidly fractured English, Son of the Pink Panther proves that a family resemblance can sometimes be painfully obvious. An Arabian princess is kidnapped, and it's up to Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Lom) to save her. Fortunately, there's no Clouseau around to plague him this time! But when a klutzy local cop (Benigni) is assigned to help him, he manages to run Dreyfus over and blow him up - all on his first day on the job. Son of the Pink Panther was the final film credit for iconic director Blake Edwards (The Party, A Shot in the Dark), legendary composer Henry Mancini (Touch of Evil, Charade) and wonderful character actor Herbert Lom (Hopscotch).
