Description

A town has been taken hostage. Who will win the battle? Only the mighty will survive. Welcome back to the Arrow Video Store! In the late '80s and early '90s boom of DTV action films, vengeance was a key theme amongst the bullet-ridden gun fights, vehicular explosions, helicopters and the muscly-man on a mission. In this second edition of Arrow Video's Enter the Video Store boxset, we collate some of the more underrated and lesser-seen gems from the period, featuring a wonderfully nostalgic cast list, including Dolph Lundgren, Yaphet Kotto, John Saxon, John Schneider, Ken Foree, David Hasselhoff and scores more. In Ministry of Vengeance, Vietnam vet and devoted minister Rev. David Miller (John Schneider) puts down his Bible in exchange for an assault rifle to take revenge on the Lebanese terrorists who murdered his family. Meanwhile, in The Final Alliance, ex-Marine Will Colton (David Hasselhoff) returns to his small hometown with his pet puma to take on a corrupt sheriff and a gang of bikers led by an albino named Ghost (John Saxon). The hugely enjoyable cult classic R.O.T.O.R. presents a rogue robotic cop who takes to the streets of Dallas acting as judge, jury and executioner - and only its creator, robotics expert Barrett Coldyron, can stop him! In Peter Maris' film Hangfire, Vietnam veteran and local Sheriff Ike Slayton (Brad Davis) teams up with his old army friend, Billy (Ken Foree), to rescue his wife held hostage by a large group of escaped convicts. Finally, stunt legend Vic Armstrong's directorial debut Joshua Tree sees Dolph Lundgren on the run and seeking revenge against the corrupt cop (George Segal) who framed him and put him behind bars. French director Jacques Demy didn’t just make movies—he created an entire cinematic world. Demy launched his glorious feature filmmaking career in the sixties, a decade of astonishing invention in his national cinema. He stood out from the crowd of his fellow New Wavers, however, by filtering his self-conscious formalism through deeply emotional storytelling. Fate and coincidence, doomed love, and storybook romance surface throughout his films, many of which are further united by the intersecting lives of characters who appear or are referenced across titles. The works collected here—made from the sixties to the eighties and ranging from musical to melodrama to fantasia—are triumphs of visual and sound design, camera work, and music, and they are galvanized by the great stars of French cinema at their centers, including Anouk Aimée, Catherine Deneuve, and Jeanne Moreau. Product Description This remarkable adaptation of Walter Farley's classic children's novel by Carroll Ballard (Fly Away Home), in which an American boy is rescued after a shipwreck off the coast of North Africa by a seemingly untamable wild horse - is a cinematic tour de force. From the crystalline shores of a deserted island in the Arabian Sea to the green grass and dusty roads of 1930s suburban New York, Ballard and director of photography Caleb Deschanel (The Right Stuff) create a film of consistent visual invention and purity, also featuring a winning supporting performance by Mickey Rooney (National Velvet) as a retired jockey and a gorgeous score by Carmine Coppola (The Godfather Part II).
