Rental Family is one of those movies that sneaks up on you. It starts with a quirky idea and somehow turns it into something funny, heartfelt, and surprisingly moving. Brendan Fraser is fantastic and brings the kind of warmth that makes you root for him almost immediately. The movie gets plenty of laughs out of its unusual premise, but it never forgets that there are real people and emotions under...

Power Ballad is a mixed bag. Paul Rudd is good and brings plenty of charm and humor to the movie, but Nick Jonas was tough for me to watch and some of his scenes just didn’t land. There are enough fun moments to keep it entertaining, but overall it never quite comes together as well as I hoped. Not bad, not great—an okay watch.

American Fiction is smart, funny, and incredibly well acted. Jeffrey Wright is excellent, bringing dry humor and real emotion to a sharp satire about race, publishing, and the stereotypes the entertainment industry rewards. Sterling K. Brown is also terrific. Thought-provoking without feeling preachy, and surprisingly heartfelt underneath all the humor. Highly recommended.

GOAT was a really fun surprise. The animation is fantastic—colorful, incredibly energetic, and especially impressive during the Roarball games. The different arenas and animal characters give the movie a style and personality of its own. I also really liked Will as the underdog. Caleb McLaughlin brings a lot of heart to the character, and the relationship between Will and Jett gives the story mor...

I absolutely loved Solo Mio. This is easily one of Kevin James’ best performances. He still brings plenty of humor, but there’s a much warmer and more emotional side to him here that I wasn’t expecting. His chemistry with Nicole Grimaudo is terrific, and their relationship feels sweet and genuinely worth rooting for. The Italian setting is absolutely gorgeous and adds so much charm to the movie. ...

You, Me & Tuscany is pleasant enough, but it feels like a collection of familiar romantic-comedy ideas we’ve seen many times before. The story is extremely predictable, and the misunderstandings and fake-romance setup stretch believability a little too far. I also never completely bought the chemistry between Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page. That said, it’s certainly not a bad way to spend a coup...

Nate Bargatze’s dry, understated humor works perfectly here. The Breadwinner is light, funny, and refreshingly family-friendly without feeling like it’s trying too hard. Bargatze’s deadpan reactions to the chaos of suddenly running the household provide some of the biggest laughs, while Mandy Moore brings a lot of warmth to the movie. The supporting cast is also great, especially Will Forte, Colin...
