I had never seen Foul Play before, which is exactly the kind of movie I like using 3DBR for. I’m usually a collector and prefer buying physical media, but I don’t always want to blind buy something I’ve never seen. Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase, Dudley Moore and Burgess Meredith made this one interesting enough to give it a shot, especially being a late 70s comedy that I somehow missed. Kino also see...

Really glad Shout brought this one back. Wildcats is exactly the type of 80s movie I enjoy — simple, fun, a little cheesy, and Goldie Hawn carries the whole thing. It’s definitely not one of the greatest sports movies ever made, but it has a lot of charm, and seeing early Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson is pretty cool too. The new 2K transfer is solid. Nothing that’s going to blow you away, bu...

Really enjoyed this one. I’m a sucker for foreign movies and somehow this one had slipped completely under my radar. Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez are all great. It’s basically a satire about filmmaking, actors and their egos, and the more ridiculous it gets the better it becomes. Definitely a different type of comedy and probably not for everyone, but I thought it was really...

I love Arrow and this is exactly the type of release they do so well. The Mask is still one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies and just such a fun 90s movie. Carrey is completely over the top, Cameron Diaz is great, and the movie still feels completely unique. The 4K transfer is excellent. Great colors, deep blacks, really nice detail and it still has a natural film look. Probably the best I’ve eve...

I’m a big Kino fan, so I was really happy to see Billy Madison finally get a 4K release. This is one of those movies I’ve watched so many times over the years and it still makes me laugh. The 4K transfer is really good. Nice detail, great color and it still keeps that natural 90s film look instead of being overly cleaned up. Definitely the best I’ve ever seen this movie look. The audio is solid ...

This one was about what I expected. R.I.P.D. is basically a Men in Black-style supernatural action movie with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. It has a fun idea and a few entertaining moments, but overall it’s pretty forgettable and never really becomes as good as the concept should have been. The 4K transfer is actually pretty solid though. Nice detail, better color and HDR, and definitely an upg...

Really glad 3DBR had this disc because for some reason I had a hard time finding it. I remember watching this one as a kid, so it was pretty cool getting to watch it again years later with my family. Kirstie Alley and John Travolta are great together and the movie still has a lot of charm. If you like 80s movies that feel a little more real and less manufactured than a lot of what Hollywood puts ...

I didn’t have big expectations going into this one, but I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Really good performances from Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening, and the whole movie just has a fun, easygoing feel to it. It’s based on a pretty crazy true story, but never feels overdone. Just a really well-made, enjoyable movie that ended up being much better than I expected. Definitely wo...

I really like Kino and this is another solid release from them. Career Opportunities is one of those fun early 90s movies that’s easy to watch. Frank Whaley and Jennifer Connelly are great together and it still has that classic John Hughes feel. The 4K transfer looks really good with nice detail, natural grain and a big step up from older releases. Audio is solid too, but nothing that really stan...

I love boutique labels, but Shout Factory can be hit or miss. This Pleasantville release is actually pretty decent. The movie still holds up, the picture looks good for a Blu-ray, and the audio is fine but nothing impressive. My biggest criticism is that some of the rules around characters turning color feel a little inconsistent — Paul Walker’s character being one example. Still, it’s an enjoya...
