Dazed and Confused remains an endlessly rewatchable coming-of-age comedy, packed with funny moments, great performances, and an amazing 1970s atmosphere. Criterion’s 4K upgrade looks fantastic, with rich colors, strong detail, and a natural film-like appearance. The soundtrack also sounds clear and lively, and the disc includes the director’s cut rather than the theatrical version.

The Abyss gets a strong 4K upgrade, especially in its fine detail, underwater colors, and bright HDR highlights. It is not a perfect transfer since the grain is often very limited and a few visual effects look rough in 4K, but the presentation is still impressive. The Atmos sound is outstanding, with excellent surround movement and clean dialogue. Both the theatrical version and Special Edition ar...

Almost Famous still hits, and this 4K UHD looks fantastic with Dolby Vision that keeps the film grain natural and boosts detail, color, and contrast. Sound stays on the legacy DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, which works well, even if it is not upgraded to anything like Dolby Atmos.

The Core is a fun, loud disaster thriller, and the 4K UHD disc mostly sticks the landing. The video looks only “okay” at times, with grain and processing that can be uneven, so the upgrade feels small and inconsistent compared to the Blu-ray. The audio is the strong point, with a solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix that has plenty of surround and low-end.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows has a pretty fun, punchy vibe, even if it feels a bit more diffused than the first one. On the 4K UHD disc, the picture looks great overall, with excellent fine detail and nice HDR highlights, even though the image can look a little tweaked and gritty. The sound is strong too, with an active DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix that really moves around the room. Overall i...

Sherlock Holmes is a fun, fast-paced take on the character with great production design and generally solid performances. On the 4K UHD disc, the picture looks great with noticeably improved detail, though it can be pretty dark and gritty with some visible grain. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track sounds strong with clear dialogue, solid surround activity, and good low-end support. No extras on the...

Punch-Drunk Love is an offbeat dark romantic comedy that lands its emotional punches fast, even if it is not for everyone. The 4K UHD transfer looks near-perfect, with great detail, solid blacks, and colors that really pop. The Dolby Atmos track is quiet most of the time, then gets intense with convincing surround activity and strong low-end during the big moments, so it sounds better than ever.

Sleepless in Seattle is a bit of a mixed bag on the 4K disc. The Atmos track is solid, with clear dialogue and lively, dynamic sound, but the picture lands on the darker side and can look dim and less vibrant than you want for a rom-com. Detail is still pretty good, with clean edge work and no obvious artifacts, but faces can skew a little oversaturated. Overall, it mostly delivers if you care mor...

V for Vendetta still hits hard, and this 4K UHD makes it look noticeably sharper with better shadow detail, cleaner colors, and no distracting compression issues. The Dolby Atmos audio is a real standout, with strong separation, lots of immersive city sounds, and big impact when it counts. Overall, it feels like a polished upgrade and an easy pick for fans who want the movie at its best on disc.

The Fugitive’s 4K UHD disc looks really clean and natural, with the film grain staying intact and noticeably more fine detail and texture than the earlier Blu-ray. HDR10 adds punch in the darker scenes, deeper shadows, and better-managed contrast without turning the image into something overly bright or washed out. Colors mainly stay true to the movie’s slightly cool, earth-toned look, with a bit ...
