NOTE - Paramount originally released The Saint as a blu-ray in 2021. In 2026 they are releasing the 4K UHD, and the package includes the SAME bluray (same scan, extras, everything) as was released in 2021. This review is for the 2026 bluray (same as the 2021 bluray), not the 4K So much bad weirdness. The main put-off for me was the way that Elizabeth Shue's character is written as such a complete...

Lovely, funny, surprising, movie. June Squibb does a great job as Thelma, Richard Roundtree (aka Shaft) is equally amazing as Thelma's friend. Good comedy, but also really heartfelt story here. Plucky, elderly, Thelma uses all her resources to get her money back from people who scammed her. As the movie unfolds you get a peek into the life of the elderly as Thelma gets patronized, dismissed, and u...

This is a gorgeous movie with amazing visuals and fantastic actors. Besides that, though, it's kind of bad. Weird, inconsistent, story with plot holes is a major distraction from the spectacle of the movie. The story of the "47 Ronin" is a classic, cherished, Japanese tale of samurai loyalty, so you can imagine there was quite a bit of (justified) squawking when they turned it into an American, E...

This is a must-see movie for fans of Westerns, fans of samurai movies, fans of Miike, and fans of kick-assery. Great story of a band of samurai who come together, motivated by revenge, honor, loyalty, etc., to take down an evil (REALLY EVIL) lord. Well written and well developed story, with one of the best climax-battles you'll ever see (13 samurai vs an army). Just watch it. Most summaries of th...

Massive, massive, talent in this movie. Some of my favorite actors give excellent performances. Unfortunately the plot is predictable, the characters' behaviors frequently don't make sense, and there's a production mismatch between what the movie wants to be (gritty like Jason Bourne) vs what it ends up being (slick like Charlie's Angels). Barely good enough for a Saturday afternoon lazy-watch. R...

Really enjoyable crime-action movie. Good performances from Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), Bruce Willis, and David Morse. Clever action. Good dialogue. The pacing of the movie and the plot turns are uneven, though. Despite the flaws, I've rewatched the movie a few times because the good stuff is very good. I rarely have an opinion on the technical stuff (picture, audio), but the picture quality of this bl...

NO SPECIAL FEATURES. :\ If you want special features (like audiocom, featurettes) look for the Criterion Collection release of this movie, which should have a whole extra disc of them, and should be available on this site. As of 8/3/26 the 3dbl website lists Anthony Hopkins, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Derek Jacobi in the cast? lol. Yeah, if they're in this movie I missed their cameos. That would ...
